Victory AC has been honoured by Havant Borough Sports Awards by being named as 'Club of The Year'.
VAC Member Dan Bailey won Senior Sportsman of the Year and HBSA Sports Person of the Year - a tremendous achievement!
The Club was nominated for the Award by Sophie Jevons, Physical Activity Officer at Havant Borough Council, who sent in the following citation:
"I have nominated Victory AC for this award as they have given up so much time to help my campaign and are an extremely valuable club for the Havant Borough.
I have run two 'Return to Sport' courses now working with the club.
Return to Sport works where a club coaches a 6-8 week course in order to give beginners / returners a chance to get back into a sport or try it for the first time.
Coaches are paid for their time through the participant costs which usually work out at about £20 for the course.
Victory AC are the only club I have worked with who would not accept payment and decided to run their course in the own time..
This meant that the cost of the course was kept to £10 and more affordable to Borough residents.
Both courses have been extremely successful with over 50 people taking part in total.
I also received many positive emails about the club and their excellent coaches.
Many of the runners from the first course (Jan 2009) are also still running within the club which also supports their success.
Outside of the courses the club the support and links remain with the club.
I have had many enquiries about running from beginner runners that I pass on to Peter Harding (coach).
Pete arranges with them to come to the training sessions, where he gives up his usual training to work with that person and make them feel most welcome.
The club are always very keen to give recognition to their Juniors, Seniors and coaches by nominating them every year for Sports Awards.
So, I thought it was time that someone nominated the club back for all their hard work and support over the past few years."
