About VAC

The club is open to all, welcoming those of all ages and abilities, from the super-fast to the steady jogger and complete beginner. Our members mainly enjoy running for fun and health. The emphasis of the club is on improving fitness in a sociable atmosphere. Why not come along to try one of our training sessions, or click on the link below to send an e-mail to the club

Training  (see also training schedule)

There are two club sessions a week, both starting from Havant Leisure Centre:

Tuesdays 6:30 PM Social run in groups, 4 to 8 miles

Thursdays 6 PM Main group training session

For the Tuesday runs, newcomers should be able to jog or run 3 to 4 miles.

The Thursday evening training, under the guidance of one of the qualified club coaches, is more appropriate for beginners. These sessions are carefully designed to offer a challenge to everyone - whatever their level of fitness or ability - as they can be tailored for both the ultra-fit and the total novice.

During the summer months, as a variation on the Thursday evening training schedule, the club runs a 'short' and a 'long' handicap race series, designed to give each participating member an equal opportunity to win.

Other activities and events

Many members compete in local races from 5 kilometers to full marathons and beyond - with some venturing further afield, even to the occasional international event! Races may be road, cross-country or multi-terrain events. The club subscribes to local leagues, including the highly-popular Today’s Runner Cross Country League, a series aimed at average-to-slow runners (a threshold is set so faster runners are excluded!). Several summer charity relay events are particularly popular. The club also arranges social events and the occasional countryside summer evening run based at a suitable pub.

The many benefits of membership include:

Group training with like-minded people

Club coaches available for help and guidance

A weekly newsletter with results and reports from local races and other useful items

A regular update on local forthcoming events, with huge file of information and entry forms, including running-related disciplines such as Orienteering and Triathlon - we’re indisputably the best-informed club!

Running magazines, training aids, books and videos available on loan

Cross-country league fixtures and championships - entry fees paid by the club

Off-road relays, some ‘invitation only’

Social events

Cheaper entry to open races through the club’s affiliation to the sport’s governing bodies

Discount on sports goods from most local sports shops, and on sports massage from Harmony

Free use of the Havant Leisure Centre changing facilities and bar on Victory AC training nights

Horizon Privilege Cards available at a discounted rate - for full membership at both Havant and Waterlooville Leisure Centres
